GNR 2023, for Wilfred and all neonatal babies ✨️
Sophia, Jordan & Daniel
My Story
We're doing the Great North Run this year to raise money for this amazing charity which is incredibly close to our hearts.
In August 2022 Sophia went into unexpected premature labour and our gorgeous boy Wilfred was born 15 weeks early weighing just 940g, 2lbs 1oz.
He spent 10 weeks in intensive care at James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough, before being strong enough to be transferred closer to home.
During Wilf's stay there, Sophia and Jordan were supported by Neoangels, and benefitted from various services that they offer to all parents with babies on the unit.
They offer financial support; parking pass reimbursement, contributions towards fuel cost and vouchers for use in the hospital canteen, as well as emotional and bereavement support. They have provided the unit with a number of breast pumps, fridges and freezers for storing the milk, and maintain a family room; a much needed space to be able to take a moment away from the overwhelm of the IC rooms.
They also work alongside medical and nursing teams to assist in providing additional medical equipment. This has meant that often unstable babies no longer need to travel to other hospitals for echos or CT scans.
During our weeks on the unit we also received numerous incredibly thoughtful items from them which were a massive help and benefit to our days there. These included a cool bag for transporting expressed milk, a pocket mirror to be able to see our boys face when he was stable enough to be placed on our chests for some skin to skin and books for us to read to him to give comfort through hearing our voices.
Words cannot explain what such a long period of time in NICU was like, but one thing is for sure is that Neoangels were just that; absolute angels!
Any donations would be massively appreciated to help them support parents in the future.
Thank you,
Wilfred
