My Story
I have been living at Stage 4 CKD since 2021 and enjoy running as part of managing my condition. Over the course of my treatment, I have lost over 10 stone in weight and love to set myself challenges to keep on top of things. I am running the Great North Run as my first ever half-marathon and to support Kidney Research UK.
Running this distance is new to me, but my training will see me attempt different goals as I progress, which are:
- To run 10km on the road at a good pace;
- To run for an hour on the treadmill;
- To run a 15km run
- To run a competitive 10 mile race
- To do a 20km run; and
- To complete the Great North Run and run a half-marathon.
With my progress and staying injury-free, I hope to run sub-2 hours, but we will see!

UPDATE:
I'm delighted to say that I completed the Great North Run on September 10th in 1 hr 54 minutes and 55 seconds on a very hot day!
In terms of my other achievements, I did the following:
- Ran a sub 50 minutes 10k at an event in Oxfordshire in August;
- Completed my hour run - 13km on a treadmill;
- Managed a 15km run from Blackpool to Lytham at a good pace;
- Won my age category at a 10 mile run in Leicestershire, finishing 13th across the line;
- Ran to Fleetwood and back for a 20km run; and
- Completed the Great North Run!
I competed in 20 races across the summer - including running some on one leg with an Achilles injury - and travelled across the country - as far south as Oxford and as far north as Newcastle. I did it, because I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me - only because he is with me!
Thank you for your support!
