My Story

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain. It is caused either by an infection invading the brain (infectious encephalitis) or through the immune system attacking the brain in error (post-infectious or autoimmune encephalitis).

Anyone at any age can get encephalitis. There are up to 6,000 cases in the UK each year and potentially hundreds of thousands worldwide. In 2016, my mum died suddenly and unexpectedly from encephalitis. I am running this half marathon not only to raise funds for further research into encephalitis, but also to pay tribute to her.

The Encephalitis Society was established in 1994, in response to the overwhelming lack of information about encephalitis for people affected by the condition and their need for mutual support in coming to terms with its consequences.

By donating to this fundraiser you can support the charity's work in driving research, accelerating awareness, and saving lives.
