My Story

Great North Run 2023

While out on an evening run in July 2021, I collapsed, suffering a sudden cardiac arrest and my heart stopped for 23 minutes. Fortunately, I was passing a local pub at the time and thanks to the first aid and CPR training of a couple of guys in the pub, the quick response of the paramedics and the hospital care of the Bristol Royal Infermary, I am able to tell the tale!

Without the inital CPR undertaken by those heroes in the local pub, it's unlikely that I would have survived long enough for the defibrillator to arrive. Therefore, the CPR training and first aid courses that BHF run are vital to ensure that more people know what to do in an emergency like this.

I'm lucky that I'm able to run again and this will be my first half marathon since the events of July 2021.
