My Story
The Story of Grace House, Heather and the Great North Run.
Once upon a time, in the North East of England, there was an amazing charity that enriches the lives of disabled children, young people and their families. Who are these heroes I hear you ask, why Grace House North East of course.
One fine day, a heroine by the name of Lovely Laura, put out a plea to the land asking if anyone would run The Great North Run for Grace House North East to raise some money for their great and worthy cause, 10 weeks before the race.
Deep in the village of Horden, lived our next character Heather, aka me! In a rush of excitement to support this great charity, and a definite surge of overconfidence in my current running capabilities, I put my name forward, on the 2nd of July.
Now for the dilemma of our story..
Early the next morning, Heather reread the plea to the land and realised that Laura's message had specifically requested entrants be in by the 30th of June.... Oh dear indeed!
In a letter to Laura, through the magical powers of email, I apologised for my late-night oversight and asked if they still had places and poetically said "Will it be speedy? Absolutely not.... but will I get the job done and raise money for you guys? Absolutely!"
Maybe the universe is strongly advising me that 10 weeks isn't enough time to get a half marathon together and suggesting I should find another way to raise money for Grace House?
Laura, being the wise fairy godmother in this story, had preempted such a conundrum and had placed a magical time buffer on entrants. A resolution was now at play.
Now, dear readers, this is where you enter the story. As it is not happily ever after just yet!
Everyone has a part to play in this story to raise money for Grace House and support their amazing work for children and families right here in the North East. Alas, have no fear! I will figure out how to run a half marathon in a couple of weeks and put the sweat in to slay the 13.1mile dragon. I invite you to be a part of this adventure by generously donating.
Thank you in advance for your support! Your sponsorship will make a huge difference to the disabled children, young people, and families supported by Grace House.
