My Story

I'm running the Great North Run in September - my first ever half-marathon - to raise money for a brilliant charity that helps refugees and asylum seekers in the North East. I am not a runner by any definition, so expect not just pain but humiliation. But I'm not particularly interested in a journey to fitness and self-discovery... rather I'm doing this to generate donations and awareness for Action Foundation. They do loads of brilliant work in Newcastle and the wider region to help empower refugees and vulnerable migrants to overcome various barriers, integrate with the community, and build skills for the future.

Helping refugees is important to me - my grandfather moved to Britain as a refugee in 1938. We all know the atrocious way in which refugees are being treated and demonised today. But that treatment doesn't represent the way most of us think. Now, more than ever, it's really important to do all we can to support charities like Action Foundation, and let everyone know... refugees are welcome!

UPDATE - I have written a blog piece for the Action Foundation website about my grandfather's experience and other motivations for running the Great North Run. Click here to read it!
