My Story

Hi my name is Annabelle Taylor I am 19 years old from Cumbria .

 

I am running in the Great North Run to raise money for NPUK charity. NPUK supports families affected by Niemann Pick disease and helps provide information relating to research into this cruel illness so that one day hopefully there will be a cure.

 

Niemann Pick is a rare neurodegenerative disease that affects children and adults with an estimated 1 in 150,000 being affected. The reason I have chosen NPUK is because my sister Yasmin Taylor was diagnosed with this illness at the age of 7 and was given a life expectancy of approximately 13 years. This illness has had a big impact on Yasmin and us as a family. The illness has slowly shutdown nearly everything Yasmin was able to do. She is peg fed, needs 24 hour care, needs guidance when walking and can only communicate with her facial expressions. NPUK has helped us immensely as a family with advice, guidance, support and reassurance. Their help over the years alongside the help of others has meant that Yasmin is still with us against the odds at 22 and still able to enjoy being with family and friends.

 

Please help me raise as much as l can for this incredible charity so that they can continue their amazing work helping families affected by this terrible disease and further their research into finding a cure.
