My Story
I'm running the GNR (not a sentence I ever thought I'd type!) to raise money for the M.E association. M.E (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) is a cruel illness that has impacted our family since Christina became ill in 2020 and was diagnosed in Summer 2021.
It is not currently known what causes M.E, nor how to cure it. But living with it involves living a life of constant physical pain, constant exhaustion and several associated physical and mental health challenges. ME/CFS can lead to long-term disability and a lower quality of life than Multiple Sclerosis or Cancer. It often presents as a complex post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS) triggered by an infection that dramatically impacts a person's ability to complete everyday tasks and to mobilise normally.
Christina suffers with significant pain daily, suffers significant post exertion malaise, is often bedridden and misses out on much of life's simple pleasures. Mental health challenges are paramount as a result of the phycial impacts and unimaginable changes to life. Running a half marathon won't even scratch the surface but might raise a few quid to hopefully help research into care and treatment.
All the money I raise will go to the M.E Association, a charity which supports people with M.E, their carers and educates, campaigns and research into M.E. Please check out meassociation.org.uk
I appreciate any donation and welcome anyone to cheer me on, on the day. I'll be the old, chubby bloke, wearing a purple ME Association top, hobbling towards the back! 🏃♀️
