About us
Intractable Epilepsy charity helps children and young adults with intractable forms of epilepsy. There is an estimated 26,000 people in the UK, who do not respond to routine treatments that help control seizures. Some sufferers have hundreds of devistating seizures every day, which has a huge impact on their quality of life. Living with uncontrolled seizures can also increase the risk of sudden unexplained death in epilepsy. (SUDEP) There are around 600 SUDEP deaths in the UK each year. Some of these intractable epilepsy sufferers have sourced private treatment to improve their quality of life and reduce daily seizures, like six year old Oliver who the charity recently helped with his £2,195 per month prescription costs. Ground Breaking Charity steps in to support six year old child
Intractable Epilepsy charity fund prescription costs of medicinal cannabis for those with intractable epilepsy when prescribed by a specialist clinician on the GMC registar and in line with NHS guidance. Medicinal cannabis has been legal to prescribe in the UK since 2018, but access on the NHS remains blocked. So the families have to cope with the immence strain of fundraising around £2,000 every month to access it privatly and deal with the daily care of their sick children, imagine if this was your child. Please help us to support and help these families. Your donations will go towards supporting the families to maintain a continued safe access to their life saving medication.
